La Presenza del Carmelo in Europa si può tracciare sin dal trasferimento dei Carmelitani dalla Terra Santa nel 1238. Le prime fondazioni furono: Messina in Sicilia, Italia, Aylesford e Hulne in Inghilterra, Les Aygalades-Marseilles in Francia. Dopo queste prime fondazioni i Carmelitani si diffusero in Spagna (1263), Italia (1238), Portogallo (1251), Germania (1268), Irlanda (1271), Malta (1418), Polonia (1411), Olanda (1652), Boemia e Moravia (1411 soppresso nel 1785 e ripreso nel 1908), Romania (2002), Ucraina, Francia (1789 soppresso e ripreso nel 1989).
